FIELD-Support (Financial Integration, Economic Leveraging, Broad-Based Dissemination and Support) is a single award, 5-year, “Leader with Associates” (LWA) cooperative agreement that was issued by the ffice of Microenterprise Development in USAID (EGAT/PR/MD) to the Academy for Educational Development (AED), along with the latter’s large consortium of 9 core partners and 17 resource organizations.

FIELD-Support was created to both advance the state-of-the-practice in microenterprise development and microfinance as well as assist USAID missions and other operating units to design and implement innovative, integrated, market-based approaches to sustainable economic growth with poverty reduction. Our scope of work includes building more inclusive financial systems, improving the competitiveness of industries in which micro and small enterprises participate, and addressing livelihood and economic security needs of special populations, such as families hurt by civil conflict or natural disasters, historically disadvantaged groups, HIV-AIDS affected households, unemployed youth, orphans and vulnerable children, refugees and other difficult-to-reach clientele.

FIELD-Support uses its core leader funding to innovate, field test and refine new products, tools and technical approaches as well as facilitate their wider application. Examples of our work include the following activities: Integrating a Market Development Approach to Health Sector Assessment and Intervention Design in Bangladesh; Community Managed Savings and Loan Funds: Developing Performance Management Standards. Creation of Model Guidelines for Sustainable Microenterprise Development in Fragile States; Integrating the Unbanked through Remittance-linked Product Development in Guatemala.

Through associate awards, USAID missions and operating units may quickly access FIELD-Support expertise to serve a wide range of short and long-term program needs. Examples include but are not limited to assessments, evaluations and multi-year project implementation.
